On October 17, 2017 I decided that it was time to create a place for the future dancers of the world who shared my vision of taking the art of movement and dance into the future. Breaking away from rules and traditions that no longer served the greater good. I decided to create a place that I nicknamed “the Island of Misfit Toys,” filled with dancers who in some way - sometimes even without knowing - broke the mold of what was “expected.” Women who felt their place in partner dancing was as the Lead. Men who felt more artistic as the Follow. Seniors in Hip-Hop. Same-sex partners in ballroom. Artists that had often been either turned away, or discouraged in other places were welcomed here with open arms. They, along with many other students of all ages, levels, backgrounds and abilities found their way to Christifer Duxbury Dance Collective… And it became home. It became a tribe. It became a collective. On October 17, 2017…. My life changed. My world became filled with a drive I didn’t know I could have. I am so grateful for the last three years, and the people who have joined this collective along the way. Here’s to many more years, because we are just getting started!
