Born in Toronto, Canada, Ola Skanks (originally Ola Marie Shepherd) became interested in dance at a very young age, teaching herself how to tap dance.
Maintaining her early love for dance as she grew older, she began studying with Willy Hanson (a dancer and choreographer), before she began focusing more and more on styles directly related to, and influenced by her African Heritage.
She performed mainly in her hometown of Toronto, and in the United States, gracing both the stage, and television screens.
In 2017, Skanks was inducted into the Dance Collection Danse Encore! Dance Hall of Fame.
